Antonius Nijssen

portrait_antonius.png

Trained in photography and screen-printing, in 1996 Dutch artist Antonius Nijssen (1955-2018) moved to explore three-dimensionality of painting and wooden sculpture, opening up his perception of creating. Despite his western European roots, he was fascinated by Asian art, Oriental philosophies - from its wide-scope and sensitive use of colours in everyday life to free-spirited, multi-dimensional perspectives.  Antonius’ works are contemplative and abstract; his emotion was visualised intuitively and optically in layers of colours, lines and panels of geometric fields and shapes. Thus, the essence of his subject matter.
