Studied Chinese calligraphy and printmaking at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and pottery at Goldsmiths' College, London, Yeung Yuk Kan lives in the Netherlands since the 80’s where she continues to create art. Her porcelain works are exhibited in the Europe, Asia and USA.
An award-winning artist, Yeung's various awards include the 1st prize, theme competition ‘Obenauf’, Oldenburg, Germany; honourable mentions ‘World Ceramic Biennale’ 2007 and 2005 in Korea, honourable mentions ‘International de Ceramica L’Alcora’ 2004 and 2003 in Spain; and Artist in Residence at Falmouth College of Arts, England. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, GRASSI Museum of Applied Arts Leipzig, Germany, Falmouth College of Arts England, Crafts Council London, World Ceramic Exposition Foundation, Icheon Korea, as well as in private collections in Asia, Australia, Europe, United Kingdom and the United States.
Growing up in Hong Kong, she is rooted in Chinese culture, yet Western cultures provide her with other sources of inspiration. To Yeung, Chinese calligraphy and the Western drawing traditions are about the movement of lines, the composition of light and solid, and the most intimate of emotions. This direct approach of expression forms a fundamental structure in her creations. Yeung's work blends the different orientations in a natural and subconscious way. While poets use their words to express their feelings, Yuk Kan uses porcelain, paper, brush and ink to express her inner soul, reflecting her poetics in all things and her living experiences.
