After many books about snuff bottles dealing with the history, or the different types of snuff bottles, Stuart Sargent and I were invited to write a different sort of book about the Mullin Collection.  Formed in the mid-twentieth century, Russel Mullin was one of a now legendary group of Californians, and other American collectors, who were all in touch with each other, and enjoyed the focus of Lilla Perry who was writing the first major western book on the subject.  We decided to take advantage of the wealth of correspondence we had access to in order to build a picture of this exciting time in snuff-bottle collecting history, and focus on the story of the Mullin collection, as much as on the bottles in it.”

- Hugh Moss on the book "This Snuff Bottle Monkey Business"
